Schools 4 Schools currently have three target areas in the world and have plans to expand as time and money permit. All of their projects are having a dramatic effect on the lives of the local children; some of them are literally life-saving.
Africa:
- Rosie’s Kitchen is the only source of food for many children in the South African township of Khayelitsha where AIDS has created thousands of orphans. Schools 4 Schools not only provided half the money for a new brick building but, together with the TCD Trust, oversaw the planning, authorisation and building of the ‘soup kitchen’, which replaced the original wooden shack.
Run by Rosie Gwadiso and her daughter, the kitchen daily feeds more than 250 children, supplying them with breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days per week, for which they pay just 6 pence. Many school buses now make a detour past the kitchen just to ensure that the children have something to eat from the typical menu of pilchards, bread, peanut butter, soya protein, vegetables and soup.
- Working in conjunction with Pearson Education, Schools 4 Schools has provided library shelves and library books for The Zisizwe Centre in Ingwavuma South Africa. The facilities will be equipped with books, desks and basic teaching equipment and we have employed a local librarian to oversee day-to-day activities.
- Building Toilets and a kitchen and dining room for the children of the JamWelly School in The Gambia and setting up a feeding program so that the children all get at least one meal per day.
- Building a school from scratch at Taibatou village in The Gambia to educate 47 children who would not have be able to go to school without our help.
- Funding a project for a teaching plantation in The Gambia to show other schools and children how to grow a new vegetable called cassava which could replace the very expensive rice as the staple diet in The Gambia.

India:
- Educating impoverished Tibetan children who have been displaced to India is a prime focus for the Tibetan House Trust. Schools 4 Schools are now funding ten orphaned children at a cost of just £13 per month each.
Many other children who come from poor families are denied an education because of the cost involved. Providing the funds for just one child frees up family resources which can be spent on education for another child or even on such basic items as food and clothing.
Schools 4 Schools are helping to make a real difference to the lives of children around the world. Can you help Schools 4 Schools?
